·I am interested in becoming a referee. What training is available?

Classes are offered thru the New Jersey Referee Committee. Please contact the Referee Chair through the About Us section of this website for additional information.

·What size soccer balls do the players use?

U5 and U6 use a size 3 ball, U7- through U13 use a size 4 ball, U14 and above use a size 5 ball.

·I am a coach in the U5 division. Are there trophies for the kids for first, second and third places, and when do we get them? Is it possible to keep the same team together for the next season?

All recreation players receive participation awards. From U5 - U10 no scores are kept since the emphasis is on development, not winning.

Teams are not kept together for the following seasons. Some players leave the system, new players come in, coaches change, and age groups may get combined depending on enrollment. Accordingly, after each season the coaches rate their players and the information is entered into a computer so when the teams are created the next season the scoring ensures that the new teams are as even as possible.

Feel free to attend the General Membership meeting of the MSC which is held on the 2nd Tuesday of the month. There you can speak to the board in person and get all the club information.

·When do the teams practice?

Soccer practices are held in two ways: We have UK Elite player development, which generally takes place on Saturdays, and at their discretion coaches hold their own practices after school during the week or on Saturdays. How often these discretionary practices are held depends on the age of the children - generally U5 and U6 have only occasional practices, U7, U8 and U9 generally have it weekly, and U10 and up may have it 2x a week.

·Regarding the Tournament Teams, before I decide whether or not my child will try out, can you please advise me on the practice and game schedules if he were to make the team?

The Tournament Teams are for rec players only, and are in addition to the regularly scheduled games. The teams play in 3-4 tournaments, including the Manalapan Funfest. Given the short time frame for training, practice is usually 1-2 times a week.

·Can an out of town resident (for example Marlboro) tryout for the U-8 travel team?

Non-Manalapan residents can try out for the U8 MSC travel teams only if they have played in our rec program for the last year. Out of towners are allowed to try out for U9 and older teams even if they previously weren’t a part of the Manalapan Soccer Club.

·Can you tell me when the Rutgers Safety Course will be offered in Manalapan next?

The RSC is offered in Manalapan occasionally. You can go to their website to obtain information on the course and a schedule of where and when it is offered. http://youthsports.rutgers.edu/volunteer_coaches_faq.html

·Is there an equipment list of the items our children will need for the soccer teams?

The club provides each player with a team shirt. The player needs to wear black shorts, black socks, shin guards and cleats. They also need to bring a ball to the practices - size 3 for the U5’s and U6’s, a size 4 for U7 - U13, and a size 5 above that. Please also bring water to practices and games.

·I have seen the picture schedule so I am aware of the times. My question is WHERE are the pictures being taken? Are they being taken at the rec center?

Yes, the Kuschick Pavilion at the Rec Center.

·Is the MSC collecting used cleats this season? If so, where do I leave them?

Yes, we are "passing" along used cleats and shin guards to deserving youths in other areas. Please leave them in the field marshal stands on game day.

·Our coach always tells us we can check the website for practice/game cancellation due to inclement weather. Where is that information posted? I’ve never been able to find it.

It can be found under Field Status on the website.
