Skills day schedule

 

At left, please find the most up to date schedule for the Manalapan Soccer Club Skills Day, which is taking place this upcoming Saturday, May 2nd..  All participants and coaches/parents should meet at REC fields G & H no less then 20 minutes before their scheduled time-slots for check-in and instructions.  Please have the players bring their own balls, which they will be allowed to use during the competition.  After completion of the 5 events, scores for each group will be tallied after which awards and prizes will be handed out.  At this time, we have gotten commitments from nearly 35 teams and over 160 individual players so this should be a fun day.  Here is some more information regarding the event:
 
·         The first groups will kick off at 1:00pm, and others will join in at 30-minute intervals.
·         As you can see on the schedule, some teams have been grouped with other teams and will compete together.
·         There are several teams that owe us a list of participants - these are denoted on the spreadsheet as well - please submit these to Mitch Cohen (cohenmj@optonline.net) asap.
·         Fields G and H at the REC will be set up with the various stations/events - please arrange for your group to arrive at the fields no later then 20 minutes before your designated time slots, so we can verify attendance and get everyone signed in.  
·         Each group/team needs to have at least one coach or parent to accompany and monitor them as they go through the various events/stations; this person will also be asked to help keep score.  They will be given a clipboard with a self-explanatory score sheet, which they will fill out as the teams go through the stations.  Officials at each of the stations can help further explain as you get to the respective event.  There will also be plenty of other people there to assist if need be.
·         The Red Bulls Street Demo team is expected to arrive around 2pm - come and check them out!!
·         In the event of rain, a rain date has been set for Saturday May 9th – information will be posted on the Club’s Website accordingly.

MSC Skills day

 

On May 2nd the Manalapan Soccer Club will kick off its inaugural MSC Skills Day -    a competition that has been created to allow our soccer players to compete and test their skills in a variety of disciplines & events that comprise the fundamentals of soccer. The main goal is for as many of our players to come out, display and test their skills, while having fun doing it. Prizes will be awarded to the top 3 finishers in each event/bracket, with ribbons going to all participants. An overall winner in each bracket will also be crowned.
  • The competition will be organized by age group, gender, and Recreation/Travel player categories.
  • Events/disciplines will include the following:
    • Shooting/Kicking 
      • Accuracy
      • Distance
    • Throw-in – Distance
    • Speed    – 60/40/30 yard dash depending on age bracket
    • Dribbling – timed by running with a ball through and around cones
    • Juggling – Ability to keep ball off ground without using hands.

 

  • Coaches - Participation is voluntary – however all of you are welcome to assist and help run/coordinate the various activities; we ask all of you to inform your teams of the event, and hope that each of you will endorse and encourage participation from your respective teams/players. A sign-up sheet will be sent out at a later date. If you have any suggestions about how to make this event more successful, please contact Mitch Cohen or Chris Thorsheim.

 

  • Location – REC Center - we are looking to utilize fields G and H, and are considering usage of the new Artificial turf field in addition to the football field
  • Volunteers – the event will require a number of volunteers. We are talking to representatives from UK Elite, Red Bulls, as well as some other local resources (i.e. HS Soccer players) to help make this event a success.
  • Practice Date – we will set up a practice run of the event (on a smaller scale) sometime in April and will ask some teams/players to participate. We’ll need to do this in order to assess how to best coordinate and schedule the events – we could potentially have in excess of 500-plus participants across all age groups, so logistics will be key.
